Doesn’t it seem like practically yesterday when we were all floating around in summer maxi skirts and fanning ourselves through the heatwave?
It looks like we blinked and winter arrived. It’s not all bad though. The chilly days mean that we can stock up on winter essentials and cosy jumpers and spend most Saturday nights watching X-Factor with a cup of hot chocolate.
It’s all rock’n’roll you know!
While fashion is a fickle friend, it rarely changes its spots when it comes to winter style.
Read on to discover some essentials you’ll be needing to see you straight through to next spring…

The Boots
This season is all about the clompy, clunky ankle boot. Think 90s grunge at its very best here. The clumpier the better. – and the more buckles the better, too.
Throw in a couple of cut out details and you’re ready to rock. This year’s boot is inspired by the Stella McCartney all-terrain boots of the season that have taken the celebrity circuit by storm.
Topshop and River Island have some good examples so stock up now before the snow arrives!

The Cosy Jumper
Not much changes year on year when it comes to the wintery woolly jumper. Whether you lump for the classic Aran style or go for something a little bit more glitzy like a Marcus Lupfer sequined beauty, just make sure you’re wrapped up warm and cosy. The Great British highstreet has tonnes of fabulous options for autumn/winter, be it crew neck, v-neck or fluffy animal print – you’re spoilt for choice and ready to face Jack Frost head-on!

The Coat
You’ll see a lot of goth and punk-inspired looks this season but one item that’s defying all the odds is the must-have pink oversized coat. Think your boyfriend’s coat – but in a gorgeous shade of dusty, girly pink. You can strut though town with your head held high knowing that you’re bringing a little bit of brightness to the highstreet and upping the fashion credentials of your hometown to boot.  Invest now and you won’t regret it.

Leather
A skirt, a t-shirt, a jacket, a trouser. If it can be crafted in leather (or faux leather), then it’s a winter essential this year. Leather-look leggings look great with an oversized jumper and your clompy boots. Or, if you’re a little bit scared and think that a leather outfit might be a little risqué for you, then how about a chic pair of leather gloves? The perfect accessory for any girl this season.

The Oversized Beanie
Giles Deacon paraded Cara Delevigne down the catwalks for A/W13 wearing the most perfect giant knitted beanie hat you ever did see. It almost covered her trademark eyebrows and flopped nonchalantly from the back of her head. But no model in the history of fashion has managed to look quite so cool as Cara did that day.

Faux Fur
Note the faux.
This season, fashion is all about texture. From a well-designed ponyskin handbag to a crocodile ballerina pump, if you can feel it, you gotta have it. And what could have more texture than a gorgeous faux fur scarf? Dip-dyed to perfection and the best accessory with any outfit. Any time of day.

The Nail
Every fashion house gives their colour of the season, but as we’re all about texture right now, nail-art is what is in vogue. House of Holland have designed a collection of cool and funky press-on nails that can be popped on in 5 minutes and chosen for any occasion. Closely followed by a number of other designers who have hopped on the nail-art bandwagon. Don’t ignore this fashion phenomenon. Dip your fingers and toes in the water now.

The Hair
Of course the one item that every girl needs this season is a gorgeous head of perfectly quaffed hair. And to achieve it, you’ll be needing some top of the range fashion hair accessories to complete your look. Experiment with the styles you see in magazines and don’t be scared to mix it up. The biggest essential this winter is confidence in your own style!
