I'm not one to wear my hair sleek and straight very often, so when Neal & Wolf challenged me to create a super sleek ponytail, it really was a challenge!
Armed with Silk Smoothing Blow Dry Balm, Guard Heat Protection and Glow Super Shine Spray, I got to work giving my thick, wavy (and slightly out of control) hair a sleek and straight makeover.
After carrying out my normal hair washing routine followed by a towel dry, I took a large pump of Neal & Wolf's Silk Smoothing Blow Dry Balm in my hands, and worked it through my hair from the ends all the way up to my jawline. I have used this product endless times before, and you can read my full review here if you wish... It basically smooths the hair, gets rid of frizz and makes it much more maneagable.
I then blow-dried my hair with my Michael Mercier brush to keep it extra smooth. Once dry, I added another small amount of the Smoothing Blow Dry Balm to the ends of my hair to help tame the fly aways.
Next I used a comb to pull my hair neatly and back into a ponytail (this can be worn at any height... I think I suit a high ponytail best) which I secured tightly with a elastic bobble. I kept a small section of hair from the bottom of the ponytail loose to fasten around the bobble... this is really simple, I just wrapped it round the bobble and secured the ends with bobby pins.
I then took my Heat Protection Spray and spritzed it allover my hair, before using my Cloud 9 Styling Irons to straighten the ponytail. I use my straighteners heated up to 200 degrees celsius, and the spray protects against heat up to 220 degrees... I never fail to use this when using heat on my hair, I can't stress how important it is to protect your locks!
The final step was to spray my hair with Glow to give a bit of extra shine to the look... I sprayed a very small amount on the top and a little bit extra on the ponytail. The best thing about this product is the smell (it reminds me of really expensive hair salons!) and the fact that it's completely light weight... I've used similar products in the past that leave my hair feeling weighed down and greasy, but this doesn't do that at all.
I have to admit I kind of love this hair style... I'll definitely be recreating it again, I think I'll experiment a bit more with adding volume to the roots too - long hair can never get boring!
