It's been a while since I shared a restaurant or food review here on That's Peachy, but after visiting The Botanist in Newcastle last week with Ray, I couldn't wait to write this blog post!

Wether you're in the Toon on the hunt for cocktails or food, this is definitely the place to be, based in the Monument Mall, it's really central and easy to find, perfect for if you need a pitstop between shops.
The decor of the place alone makes it worth a visit, it manages to be vintage and chintzy whilst also being modern and really trendy at the same time, it's the perfect balance which has a really relaxed yet buzzy atmosphere about it, hard to describe but definitely worth the experience. There's a bar, restaurant and rooftop terrace to choose from (we went for the restaurant as it was a little quieter) and as you can see from the photos, it's really beautiful.

I'm a strong believer that first impressions count, and we received excellent service from the moment we entered the room. When choosing a drink, I made the 'mistake' of not really looking at what was to offer and asked for a large coke, it was a hot day and I knew it would hit the spot.. Ray went with something a little fancier, a Watermelon Dew, which looked (and tasted) incredible... I know what I'm ordering next time!

When it came to the food I was a little more adventurous... I ordered the hanging chicken kebab and Ray went for the steak, cheese and onion sandwich. Ray's looked good, but I think my kebab definitely won this round for me, the presentation alone was spectacular with the chicken, peppers and onions hanging above the chips. The chicken was marinated with sweet chilli and ginger before serving, then the waiter poured the garlic butter over the kebab to let it drip down into my chips - genius and delicious!
It's fair to say that I was pretty full after this, so I couldn't manage a dessert, but next time I visit I will make sure I save room for the strawberry & marshmallow kebab... how amazing does that sound?!

Have you been to The Botanist... What do you recommend I try next?
