Eating out is one of my favourite things to do, so when a new place opens in my hometown I'm always keen to try it out, especially when it's as cool as this place; Canteen & Cocktails in Norton.

Described simply as 'a bar selling great food' and 'a place to relax and enjoy good company whilst sipping on a classic cocktail' this is the kind of place anyone can enjoy day or night, for a quiet meal with family or for drinks with friends on an evening.
If you're local to Middlesbrough you will know that Norton is fast becoming the place to be seen and C&C is a welcome new addition to the town and has fast become my favourite place to go.

I'm such a foodie and I love to discover places which offer something a little different but still have choice to suit everyone's tastes... the menu is broken down into small bites & salads, char-grill, burgers & baps and my personal favourite 'from the smoker' in which the meats have been seasoned and smoked over Hickory & herbs for up to 24 hours  - this reminds me of something you would only see or  hear about on Man Vs Food! There's also sides-a-plenty, Sunday roasts, delicious sounding desserts (which I will definitely be sampling next time I visit!) and separate lunch and take away menus.
I was pretty greedy but couldn't resist ordering the selection of smoked meats from the smoker which was made up of hearty portions of slow cooked beef brisket, pulled pork, a rack of baby back ribs and half a smoked chicken with chips, homemade green chilli slaw and extra barbecue sauce - I was slightly disappointed in myself that I couldn't finish the meal, in fact, it well and truly beat me, but I can say that what I did manage to eat was absolutely delicious. The meat melted in my mouth, the flavours reminded me of the best bbq food I've ever eaten but intensified to be even better and the chips were perfect - need I say more?!

When it came to the drinks choice, the selection is huge... I was really tempted by so many of the cocktails, but as it was daytime and I was driving I had to be good. This didn't mean I missed out at all, as I was offered a none-alcoholic cocktail by the really helpful waitress who obviously noticed my disappointment at not being able to have a drink! I'm not too sure what the name of my mocktail was, but it was peach and passionfruit flavoured frozen icy goodness which I would definitely choose again.

Not only are the food and drinks fantastic, the service is super friendly and welcoming and the decor is incredible. I love the quirky lighting, the long bench tables, chips in a mug, food in a metal tray and the industrial style bar area.
I can't wait to go back!

If you're not from Middlesbrough, there is a new Canteen & Cocktails opening on the Quayside at  Newcastle next week, so if this is closer to you, you're in for a treat!
