Before YouTube came along, makeup tutorials were only found by looking over your Mother's shoulder or in book form, so having a hard copy of a beauty book with amazing looks and ideas really takes me back, and makes me feel rather nostalgic.

In an ideal world, my home would all look like something from Pinterest but unfortunately with a crazy child and a crazy cat, this isn't easily achievable... one thing I do actually have is a heap of coffee table books to work my way through, the newest in the pile being this beauty bible written by celebrity makeup artist Gary Cockerill, a huge, hardback filled with glossy pages and beautiful images.

Gary is one of the best in the business, creating amazing makeup looks for the likes of Eva Longoria, Isla Fisher, Rachel Hunter, Kelly Brook and even David Beckham to name a few.
In the 200 page book he has created step by step instructions on how to create many desired makeup tricks including how to contour, how to master the perfect feline flick and how to create the perfect shaped brow for your face shape with detailed photos, instructions and illustrations.

The book is broken into three sections; face, eyes and lips with each section broken down further. It's super easy to follow, and caters for all ages, skin types and tones... it could be ideal for a teenager who is just getting into using makeup and wants to learn more, for someone who hasn't worn makeup for a while and wants some new ideas, or someone like me who just loves makeup and wants to learn more tips and tricks from the trade.

I have been practising a contoured eyebrow technique and applying your lipstick to create perfect, sexy lips. The next pages I'm going to attempt will be how to create 'bedroom eyes'... I'm terrible at eye makeup too, but I have faith that Gary's tips will help me up my game!
At the back of the book, Gary recommends his favourite products ranging from drugstore to high end makeup, brushes and everything in between - It makes a really interesting addition to the book, and has resulted in me treating myself to a few bits to help create some of the looks featured in the book.

If you're looking for a present for a makeup enthusiast or just want to treat yourself, you should definitely check out Simply Glamorous, published by Jacqui Small.
