I hate cleaning my makeup brushes, it always feels like such a chore and then when they're all done it takes ages for them to dry and for me to be able to use them again. Unfortunately, as much as it's an inconvenience, it's a necessary one;
Dirty makeup brushes hold onto bacteria, which can cause more spots when used and makeup just doesn't apply as smoothly with an unclean brush.
I push myself to clean my brushes once a week... this can extend to every ten days if I'm too busy or particularly lazy, anything longer than that is no good!
As a big Real Techniques fan, when Sam & Nic announced they were releasing a brush cleansing gel, I couldn't wait to give it a go, a new product to clean with added a slight novelty to cleaning my brushes and makeup sponges again!
The Deep Cleansing Brush Gel is a clear, thick gel consistency which lathers up with warm water onto a damp brush, I simply swirl my brushes around in this in the palm of my hand, rinsing as I go until the water runs clear... this works really quickly, and other than foundation brushes which take a little longer, each brush is done in around 30 seconds (give or take).
The gel contains no alcohol and has a slight, fresh, gentle scent to it, nothing overpowering and nothing which really translates onto the brushes... they're simply left smelling 'clean'.
I must also add that the packaging is really pretty, yet simple... the bottle definitely doesn't look out of place or awkward standing on the side of my sink.
Although the excitement of cleaning my brushes will most likely wear off again pretty soon, this definitely does the job and I will continue to use it. A tiny bit goes a long way, so I can imagine this bottle lasting me for a really long time, and at only £7.50 for 150ml this is a real affordable brush cleaner in comparison to others on the market.
