When it comes to Summertime, every woman needs a maxi or two in her wardrobe. There are so many styles available at the moment, it can become a little overwhelming when trying to decide the best style for you and your needs.

I was challenged by House of Fraser to pick a selection of maxi dresses for any Summer occasion. The selection on their website is pretty endless, with a huge price range, size range and mixture of styles, there really is something to suit anyone.

My favourite time to wear maxis is while on holiday, as they're the perfect piece of clothing to take you from day to night without having to worry about changing and of course it saves on packing extra clothes and outfits. They can be thrown on on top of your swimwear and worn with flip flops around the pool, then for night you just need to change your shoes to a heeled sandal and you're good to go!
I love the white embroidered maxi from Accessorize... the white will show off a tan perfectly, and the intricate detail around the top is just so pretty. The tye dye and tassled dress from Superdry is also a holiday must have and would look amazing worn at the beach... I'd also get my wear out of this by teaming it with a leather jacket and wellies for a festival.

If you're looking for more of an everyday/any occasion kind of dress then something brighter, yet with subtle shape will work really well. Superdry have hit the nail on the head once again with the green and blue print dress, this is so wearable as it's covering yet it has splits up the side to give it a bit of a twist. I'm also obsessed with the floral French Connection dress which would just be so versatile, I can imagine this with a denim jacket and sandals or styled up with heels for a wedding guest outfit - If you're only going to buy one maxi this year I'd say it has to be this one!

For a more casual look I've picked a printed, long sleeved shirt style maxi from Dorothy Perkins, which would look amazing worn with sandals, worn open over the top of jeans or denim cut offs and a vest top or with a studded belt and boots, I really do think I need this dress in my life! Or if you're looking for something completely plain and simple, Oasis are always the go-to brand for jersey maxis this time of year. They're super flattering for any shape or size and come in a range of colours and prints. This black belted one is a real wardrobe staple and the kind of thing you could bring back out year after year without being noticed as an outfit repeater.

Of course when you're needing an outfit for a more formal occasion, maxi dresses are one of the first choices too. For some real glamour I love the beaded black and white dress from Phase Eight, I can imagine this hangs beautifully and would look amazing on, and for something a little more subtle Mint Velvet have really impressed me with this ivory and chalk maxi - If I was dressing someone for a prom, I would without doubt be getting them to try this one on and with a nude bag and pair of heels it would look so classy.

What's your go to style when it comes to maxi dresses?
