Bowling has always been something I have really enjoyed doing with family and friends, and now that Elodie is old enough to play properly (and subsequently win!) we jumped at the chance to take her along at the end of the Summer holidays.

We were invited along to the Hollywood Bowl in Washington to enjoy a VIP experience, which included use of the VIP bowling lanes and food in the diner.
Upon arrival, we were greeted at the front desk and introduced to our lovely VIP team member who would be looking after us for the day.

The VIP lanes not only look special, but there are lots of added extras in comparison to the regular bowling lanes. The seating is leather and your area is cordoned off with VIP ropes and plush red velvet curtains. You also get your own storage area for your belongings and can press a button on the interactive screen in your area to get your VIP team member to attend to your needs, whether that's more drinks or nibbles, there's no waiting around.

The infamous bowling shoes are no longer a necessity, if you're wearing trainers or flats you don't have to change... I was wearing heels and Elodie wanted to change for the fun of it, so we swapped footwear and embraced them with a FWIS photo (although I'm not too sure they really matched my trousers!)

Our team member helped Elodie to type our names into the touchscreen and chose us each a  funny emoji to go alongside them and then it was time to play! The computer allows you to choose whether you want the sides up when you bowl which can be changed if needed and keeps track of everyone's scores throughout each game.
Every time someone gets a strike, one of the team members comes along with a big pink sticker for you to wear (somehow Elodie ended up with three!) and at the end of the game the winner gets a blue sticker, which somehow I managed to win one of... Considering how long it has been since I played, I was really surprised, but it was so much fun!
Elodie did so well in the game she won, she got her score put on the leader board in 6th place, which she was very proud of.

After playing we headed to the diner for some food, which offers sharing dishes, snacks, burgers, pizza, hot dogs and more, all at really affordable prices.

Our drinks came first; orange squash for Elodie which came in a cup with a lid and a straw (such a good idea to prevent spills), a bottle of 7 Up for me and a pint of Pepsi for Robbie. The food soon followed...
Robbie chose the option to build his own burger and fries which came to the table looking pretty spectacular, and must have tasted good too as he ate the lot! I went for a hot dog with extra cheese and fries which came with little pots of ketchup and mustard, which was really delicious and Elodie had fish fingers and chips which again, was all eaten up.

It was great to see that everything was freshly prepared and we all commented that the food was of a much higher quality than we had expected. In all honesty we expected pretty bland frozen food, but that wasn't what we were given at all... The chips were skin on fries, the bread buns were really fresh and the portions were huge - absolutely no complaints from us!

We loved our day, all of the staff were really friendly, welcoming and constantly on hand if we needed anything and we'll definitely be going back soon.
How long is it since you've been bowling?
