As a rule, I'm not a big pizza fan, but when the Barbarossa Pizza Kitchen opened on Bedford Street in Middlesbrough I couldn't help but be tempted.

They are a pizza kitchen and bar with the rustic wooden and metal style tables and chairs that seem to be in all of the trendy hangouts these days serving authentic wood-fired sourdough pizza and Italian style sides with craft beers, wines and spirits.
I love the grey ceiling and industrial style lighting above the bar and the open kitchen area is a great touch, it always fills me with confidence when I can see who's making my food.
We visited early on a Saturday afternoon and it was really quiet - a perfect time to visit! Service was great and our order was taken quickly.

I ordered a traditional lemonade and Ray got sparkling water and for food we decided to share a starter of patatas bravas; homemade potato wedges seasoned with Rosemary and Himalayan salt with a side of salsa and mayonnaise and a pizza with tomato base, British ham, sauteed mushrooms, Mozzarella and fresh buffalo Mozzarella.

The pizza was freshly made to order and had that real authentic look and taste to it - the type of pizza I like. One pizza was easily enough for the both of us, they definitely aren't shy with the portion sizes in this place!
As much as I enjoyed the pizza I have to say that the patatas bravas stole the show for me! They were crispy on the outside, soft on the inside and the flavours from the seasoning were delicious, as was the salsa mayo, which I couldn't get enough of. It made such a pleasant change to have something equally as tasty on the side rather than the typical chips.

I'll definitely be returning to Barbarossa soon, it's the perfect place to enjoy food and a few drinks with friends and I can't wait to have more patatas bravas and try another pizza from the menu; There are so many that I liked the sound of and need to try!
This is the kind of place that's been missing from Middlesbrough, and I am so pleased we have it. Bedford Street is fast becoming my favourite place to eat and drink in the area.

Have you checked out any of the new eateries or pubs in the Boro yet?!
