MOD Pizza are the new big thing when it comes to pizza places... So last week when me and my boyfriend were invited along to try their newest restaurant in The Metro Centre, Gateshead - We jumped in the car and headed straight up the A1, mouths watering as we drove!
If you're unfamiliar with the concept of MOD; It began in America eight years ago and has now started to take over the as the best casual/fast food pizza place you can go to.
You can select from a huge range of pizzas or salads, or (even better) you can create your own, completely from scratch.
The range of sauces, cheeses and toppings is massive and the options of pizza you can create is literally endless... Best of all, no matter what toppings you choose, or even how many; the price is always the same!
I'm not the biggest pizza lover in the world, unless it's freshly made and customised by myself... I'm quite a fussy eater and only really love it when I can have it on a thin base with feta and sweetcorn or when the mood takes me, with loads of blue cheese, so this place is basically perfect for me!
Located in the new Upper Qube of the Metrocentre, you can't miss MOD, with it's neon signage, crazy decor and open plan layout... Despite being surrounded by other places to eat, I urge you to go in and give these pizzas a try, you won't regret it!
Everything is very casual, yet really friendly, and upon entering the restaurant you can join the queue to create your pizza. Choose from a 6" mini, an 11" MOD or a mega double crust and then the fun begins.
There are lots of pre-created pizzas to choose from, which are made freshly in front of you, so are fully customisable, or you can design your own pizza from scratch.
You can select from six sauces to go on your base or have it plain, and of course you can choose to have as much or as little as you like. The cheese is then added before you get to add your toppings... herbs, veg, meats... all the extras are there and trust me when I say there is no scrimping on the toppings here. I was constantly asked if they had given me enough, if I wanted more or anything else added to my pizza - I honestly believe if I'd asked for a bit of everything, they would have happily obliged.
My pizza consisted of a bbq sauce base, mozzarella, blue cheese, feta, bacon, spicy sausage, roasted sweetcorn and a bbq swirl.
Robbie also customised his own with a pesto base, mozzarella, feta, ground beef, grilled chicken, red onion, mushrooms, a balsamic-fig glaze and rocket.
Both of which, were without doubt the best pizzas we have ever eaten! Huge claim I know (especially from Robbie who loves pizza), but 100% true.
Neither of us managed our whole pizza, as they were really filling, but every bite we managed was amazing. We washed them down with delicious iced lemonades.
I can't wait to turn to MOD - It's definitely my new restaurant of choice!
