A little later than planned, and I do apologise for that, but here it is, my favourite beauty products of 2016 - The roundup! I figured as long as I publish this in the first half of January, then it's still relevant, and to be honest I fancied writing something a little more light hearted than my last few posts, so let's go before it's too late!
When it comes to base products, I have quite a few foundations that I fluctuate between; bareMinerals Complexion Rescue, Illamasqua Skin Base, YSL Touche Eclat Le Teint and Nars Sheer Glow all being the usual suspects, and they all really deserve their mention in this post. 2016 introduced the YSL and Nars options into my life, and due to an almost perfect colour match, I have to give the title of favourite to Sheer Glow. It's the base I reach for daily, when I need that flawless coverage, with slight radiance and I always know it's going to last for hours.
2016 was also the year we all fell in love with NYX lip products, right?! They finally launched in Boots and became easily available to us all. I'm cheating slightly by mentioning two favourites here, but I literally can't separate them enough to choose which I prefer the most. The first I bought was their Lip Lingerie in 'Embellishment', a purple/grey toned liquid lipstick, a shade completely different to anything I've worn before, but one I truly love. More recently I picked up the Liquid Suede in shade 'Soft Spoken', a beautiful every day brown/pink shade that I love just as much as the first... I can definitely see my collection of these growing in 2017!
A product which I have mentioned in a yearly favourites before, and I still view as the best is the Billion Dollar Brows powder which I use in the shade 'Raven'. It feels as though the majority of people now favour pomades and gels over powders for their brows, but for me, I just can't achieve the desired look that I love so much with anything other than this powder. Best of all, despite using this every single day, this is the same pot I mentioned in last years favourites... it's lasting forever.
My favourite high end brand YSL have me sold with their Volume Effect Faux Cils mascara which I have in dark brown. This adds the perfect amount of length, volume and drama to my lashes for daytime wear, and is so easily built up for evening, without looking clumpy or spidery at all. I always think that a good mascara can really finish a look off perfectly, and for me this is the one I always feel my best with. Unfortunately mine has dried out slightly, but I've heard they have slightly tweaked the formula so this doesn't happen as quickly now, so I'll be repurchasing soon... It's definitely worth the price tag.
Another high end brand I have grown to love this year are Lancome and their beautiful Cushion Blush Subtil in Sorbet Grenadine has been one of my most reached for blushers over the past few months. It's such a fresh, glowy shade that adds a real sheen and radiance to the skin, and I'm a big fan of the cushion products too - they're so easy to apply and carry around on your travels.
A product I haven't been using for a great deal of time, but one which thoroughly deserves it's spot in my favourites is the Art Deco contour powder. This gives the most natural contour to my skin that I've ever had from a powder product... the shade of brown works perfectly on my skin tone, so as not to appear bronzed or shimmery, it simply adds shadow and structure to my face. I can't recommend this enough, and I definitely want to give more products from their range a try this year.
In contrast to the high end products, one of the best value and one of my most loved purchases this year has to be the Sleek Solstice highlighting palette. If you haven't seen this already, well... Where have you been hiding? With three stunningly radiant powder highlights and one creamy and really blendable cream formula highlight, you don't really need to look much further for your cheekbones needs.
For priming my skin my favourite product has to be the Dermalogica Hydrablur Primer. This not only leaves my skin feeling unbelievably smooth in preparation for applying my makeup, but disguises any blemishes or redness and helps my makeup to stay in place all day. It's really lightweight on my skin, and I feel as though my skin can still breathe while I'm wearing it. Despite this being quite pricey, I only use the tiniest amount, so as far as price per use goes, it's going to be worth it.
With skincare I'm usually quite fickle and it's rare that I stick to the same products, but I have been using the same moisturiser pretty much daily for the whole year, which definitely means that the Kiehls Ultra Facial Cream qualifies as a favourite.
My skin seriously drinks this stuff up... It's the most hydrating and soothing face cream I have ever used and one application each morning keeps my skin fresh, soft and moisturised all day long. Trust me on this one, if you have dry skin, this will be your saviour!
Another must have product for anyone with dry skin is the Vichy Quenching Mineral Mask. Once or twice a week, I treat myself to a bit of a pamper with this, apply it allover my face and leave it to sink in, through doing so, my skin is always so soft and extra moisturised (which is exactly what it needs in this cold weather we've been having lately). You can read my full review by clicking the link, but I really can't rave about this enough, it's so cooling, so refreshing, just wonderful!
My favourite in shower product this year has been the Rituals Ayurveda Scrub, which can be used as a normal body scrub, or as a body mask, which is my personal favourite way to use it.
It's a really thick, clay based scrub, with lots of tiny exfoliating particles which work to purify and revitalise my skin... It almost feels too luxurious to be an at home product, I always think it feels like some kind of spa treatment!
And finally (how are we at the end already?!) is The Body Shop Camomile Cleansing Butter, the only way I enjoy removing my makeup. This is targeted at people with sensitive skin, as it's super gentle, and only very lightly fragranced. A tiny amount of this melted between my fingertips before being massaged into my skin removes all of my makeup, even the stubborn waterproof mascaras I have, and leaves me skin feeling it's softest and cleanest ever... Another definite repurchase for me.
