I love red lipstick, it's been my go-to lip choice for as long as I can remember. I always feel dressed up when I wear a red lip, even if my hair is up in a top knot and I'm wearing a simple tee and ripped jeans, that slick of red colour can really add some glamour.
Over the years I have gathered quite a collection of reds so I thought I'd share my top five red lip products with you all.
When it comes to finding lip products that I love, I don't always believe that spending the most money gets you the best quality... The five reds I have chosen here as my very favourites and most worn are a mixture of high end, middle and super affordable drugstore makeup.
With the prices ranging from £4.99 to £26, the shades including the brightest pillar box red, to a deep maroon shade and all kinds of formula, there should be something here to suit everyone's taste and preference.
Chanel 'Histoire': This is a really bright, true red shade from the Rouge Coco Stylo Lipshine range. Packaged in a very sleek and slim black casing, this is really easy to apply directly from the bullet, with the lipstick itself being thin and perfect to achieve real precision with.
The formula is really creamy and is very hydrating on the lips, with Chanel describing it as 'as intense as a lipstick, as shiny as a gloss and as comfortable as a balm', it's such a dream to wear... Possibly the most comfortable lipstick I have ever worn. The colour is wonderfully pigmented and long lasting on the lips with little if any need for touch ups throughout the day.
Despite being the most expensive of my favourite reds, this is definitely worth the investment.
Charlotte Tilbury 'Oh Marilyn': I've spoken about my love for CT and her lipsticks on here plenty of times, especially those from the Matte Revolution range, which have a somehow matte finish yet still manage to have a sheen to them and are really quite moisturising. This lipstick is creamy to apply and goes on beautifully smooth. The colour is a highly pigmented, deep classic red shade which is the kind of red that will suit the majority of skin tones.
If you're after a matte that you can wear day to day, this is the one for you.
Urban Decay '714': This is another matte lipstick, and as a contrast to the matte I just mentioned, this is a more classic matte, there's a lot less shine with this one. The formula isn't as smooth to apply as the CT option, however once this is applied it's really comfortable on the lips and despite the stigma surrounding mattes, this isn't overly drying either.
The colour is a bight red with a slight orange tone to it, and of course, like with all UD lipsticks the pigmentation is really long lasting.
L'Oreal Sexybalm 'Yala Yolo': This lipstick comes in a crayon form making it perfect for carrying around in your bag for daytime top ups and the pointed tip allows for real precision when applying.
The colour is a coral toned red, which is beautiful for Spring time. The formula is so silky and so smooth, much like a balm, which also gives it a really glossy finish.
I can't recommend this enough, and as the cheapest of them all, there's no excuse not to add this one to your collection... As an added bonus, it smells amazing too!
NYX Suede Cream Cherry Skies: I just had to include a liquid lipstick in the lineup didn't I?! This is the darkest option of all my favourite reds, but despite the burgundy tone, it's super flattering even on my pale skin. I feel as though I have raved about these Suede Creams a little too much recently, but everything I say is true... They're simple to apply, long lasting on the lips and they seem to make daring colours so easy to wear.
This shade has a lovely glossy finish to it, without being sticky. It dries really quickly but  doesn't dry out the lips and stays in place all day.
Just look at those beautiful swatches... If you don't usually reach for red, please tell me I've convinced you to give them a try. Not only do they look good, but they really do give an inner feeling of confidence, they dress up any look and I truly believe there is a red out there to suit everyone.
