Sunderland Restaurant Week is back, and starting tomorrow selected restaurants around Sunderland are taking part, offering two and three course evening meals on £10 and £15 deals plus £5 lunch deals too. Eating out is a favourite hobby of mine, and there are so many offers to take advantage of, I really can't wait!

Whether you're a fan of Asian, Italian, Indian, classic British food or prefer something sweet, there really is something for everyone's tastes on offer.
I went along to the preview evening last week to sample some of the delicious food on offer, all of which was completely new to me as I have only eaten out in Sunderland once before... It really is the perfect time and opportunity to try out some new places.
First stop for cocktails and canapés with a bunch of lovely local bloggers was Cafe Purple on Park Lane, which is really central and easy to find, perfect for someone new to the city like me.
This is a contemporary cafe/cocktails and champagne bar which serves a huge array of food and drinks in really bright and modern surroundings... The perfect place to start a night out with friends.

As I was driving, I ordered a mocktail which was adapted from my pick off their huge choice of cocktails and I then enjoyed watching the other girls getting their drink on with the mixture of beautiful drinks (and shots!) that filled our table.
We then shared a platter of canapés which included meat and cheeses, garlic bread and nibbles, all of which were really delicious, packed with flavour and really fresh.
For starters we headed to Royale Thai on Mary Street where we were served a sharing platter of appetisers including chicken satay skewers, fish cakes, golden parcels, spring rolls and chicken dumplings with a selection of dips.
I'm a huge fan of Thai food, so was really looking forward to this course... The chicken satay skewers were my favourite, the flavour of the sauce was incredible, I would definitely order these again.
The ambience of the place was lovely too, dim lighting and traditional Thai decor make a perfect setting for date night.
Main course was next, and this turned out to be my favourite venue and favourite dish of the night. Back to Park Lane we headed and found ourselves in the Sunderland College Bistro, which is a full time restaurant which trains chefs to their full potential and showcases their work.
The restaurant serves high quality, creative cuisine at very affordable prices.

We were seated and served a selection of bread and wine (or water for the few of us who were T total for the night) while we chose our desired main course from the menu.
I went with the chicken breast, sweet potato, corn, bbq sauce and red slaw which was beautifully made, wonderfully flavoured and perfectly put together and displayed on my plate.
I also took a photo of Alice's cod which was served with cauliflower, fondant potato, herb crumb and parsley cream... I was quite tempted by this too, and she said it was as amazing as it looked.

We all cleared our plates and everyone I spoke to commented on how amazing this place is... Not only the food, but the service and the attention to detail - I can't recommend it enough.
Lastly we were back where we started, next door to Cafe Purple in a place called Port of Call which is famed for its hearty meals, ales and cocktails and the home made chips, although we were there for dessert. I have to say though, the desserts we sampled were really amazing.

Port of Call is a really relaxed place with a very cool vibe about it. The interior is really modern and industrial and much to my delight they have big screens playing live football around the ground floor.
We were given huge dessert platters to share which included chocolate fudge cake, blondies, deconstructed Oreo cheesecakes, cookie dough cakes and rocky road bars. As I have such a sweet tooth I thought it would be only fair for me to sample a bit of everything, and nothing disappointed me... The stand out two were definitely the cookie dough cakes and the blondies - I'd walk back to Sunderland for more of those!
