Since attending the preview night for Turtle Bay's newest opening in my hometown of Middlesbrough, I have become a bit of a regular... I think I've been back five times in the same amount of weeks - Some might call this obsessive, but I really just can't get enough of the food, the atmosphere and those delicious cocktails!
We were invited back to review a two course meal with drinks on a Tuesday evening - such a lovely mid week treat! We were greeted at the door as soon as we walked in and taken to our table at the back of the restaurant on a raised area, lit by hanging lamps and red neon signeage.

We had a glance at the cocktail menu and ordered our drinks to sip on while we looked at the rest of the menu. I picked a 'Marley Mojito' made up of Appleton Signature Rum, green melon liqueur, fresh mint, watermelon and ginger beer. Robbie went for the 'Jumbled Julep', White rum and Passoa, strawberry, fresh mint and apple juice. 
Both drinks looked incredibly fresh and tasty and they were really delicious (and rather strong!)
We decided on ordering a starter and a main each for our two courses, despite loving the desserts at the preview evening the starters just sounded too delicious to miss out on (there's always next time!)
I chose to order the Garlic & Chilli Pit Prawns; a plate of four huge shell-on king prawns that had been grilled over the jerk pit before being tossed in a herb and chilli garlic butter. The prawns were topped with spring onions and a slice of lemon and sat on top of three slices of roti flatbread, which were perfect for mopping up the garlic butter from around the plate.
The flavours in this dish were beautiful, the prawns were big and juicy and the butter complimented them perfectly.

Robbie picked the Jerk Pit Wings; 24 hour spiced and marinated chicken wings pit grilled with sour orange chutney. He also had the choice of which glaze he would like from Classic (spicy), Pineapple (fruity) or Coconut (creamy)... He picked Classic. The choice of glaze is also available on a lot of the main courses and is such a great option for people who aren't so keen on hot foods and want something a little cooler.
Before the next course arrived I ordered myself another drink, although I didn't feel like I could handle another cocktail so opted for a mocktail from the Caribbean Softs section of the menu. I chose the Passion Fruit Cooler, made from fresh passion fruit, orange, lemon and ice - It was so tasty and refreshing... The perfect Summer drink. 
For our main courses, we felt a little spoiled for choice... The menu is packed with so many things I want to try, from toasties to whole chickens, meaning no matter how hungry you're feeling there is always going to be something perfect for you. 

After a bit of deliberation I decided to order the Jerk Lamb Rump; a grilled and jerk marinated lamb rump served with Caribbean slaw, sweet potato mash (which I swapped for sweet potato fries), green seasoning, sweet onion chutney and your choice of glaze.
This was really amazing and I ate everything on my plate. The flavours are the perfect mixture of hot and cool and the juicy and perfectly tender lamb taste was heightened by the sweetness of the fries - I'd definitely order this again.


Robbie picked something I had also been considering ordering, the Street Shack Burger; a pure British beef burger topped with spicy pull jerk pork, pork rind, crisp gem lettuce, sweet red onion chutney and herb mayo in a sweet bun served with spiced fries on the side.
He said it was one of the best burgers he's ever eaten, and from the tiny bite he allowed me to try, I have to say I agree! The pull jerk pork was absolutely delicious.
I can't recommend Turtle Bay enough, whether you drop by for some cocktails before a big night out, opt for a full three course meal or anything in between, I'm sure you'll love it.
The atmosphere is so fun and energetic, the decor is amazing and the staff are always really great.
Turtle Bay is just what Middlesbrough needs, it's so nice to have somewhere serving food that's a little bit different to everywhere else in town.
