With the Summer holidays just around the corner (less than a week to go - OMG!), I have been spending a lot of time planning things to do with Elodie during her six weeks off school. I hate the thought of her being bored or us running out of things to do, so while the weather is good, I'm determined that we will enjoy it.

I'm not the biggest fan of Summer, I'm much more of an Autumn/Winter girl, but I've listed six simple ways to help embrace the season, I guess we have to enjoy the sun while we have it, so I for one will be trying to live by these rules!
Spend time outdoors: Whenever there is good weather, we should make the effort to put down the iPads and get ourselves outside. I'm really lucky that I live near the beach and the countryside so there are plenty of places I can go and spend the day when the sun is shining.
If you're not as fortunate as I am with where you live, even going for a walk or sitting in the garden is a good way to take in the fresh air and get that vitamin D on your skin (just remember that SPF guys!)

I've been looking for some outdoor activities to do with Elodie and I'm spoilt for choice with things such as strawberry picking, visiting petting farms and going to the funfair... There is always lots on offer that will get you to spend your time outside even if you're not going abroad.

Brighten up your wardrobe: Anyone who knows me or reads my blog will know that I tend to shy away from colour. My wardrobe is predominantly made up of black, greys and blues, but this season I am forcing myself to be braver with my outfit choices and adding some brighter colour into my style... If you can't wear brights in Summer, then when can you?!

I've started with this gorgeous red dress from New Look. The smock dress style with cute ruffled sleeves is something typical of my personal style, but the colour is a little out of my comfort zone.
As soon as I tried the dress on though, I loved it and was so glad I picked out something a little different for myself... It's inspired me to look for more colours and start experimenting a little to see what really suits me the most.

I styled it with some black accessories (black definitely being my safety zone!) I love the pearl detail on the shoes and the bag is ideal for carrying my camera and lenses. I just love the finished look... It's girly, it's a bit glam yet still casual enough to wear during the daytime.
The dress and shoes are in the sale now too!
Get your legs out: I always feel paranoid of my legs because they're just SO pale and most of the time I can't be bothered to tan, but I have convinced myself to forget about caring what anyone else thinks and just get them out... I encourage you to do it too.
I'm going to try and get as much sun on them so that they will hopefully pick up a bit of colour, this will give me a little more confidence and allow me to enjoy being so much more comfortable and cooler in dresses and skirts rather than wearing jeans all of the time.

Do Something to take you back to your childhood: I have so many wonderful memories from the Summer holidays when I was younger, and I'm going to try and relive some of these moments with Elodie. Whether it's listening to music that reminds you of good times, a certain food or a specific place, reliving a good memory is always a great feeling.

Whenever I think of my childhood I reminisce about times at the beach, riding donkeys, eating ice creams and playing the 2p machines in the arcades. I used to spend a lot of time in Scarborough and Whitby... Every time I go back, I find myself remembering so many amazing times, it's a great way to make new memories.
Take advantage of the light nights: We moan so much about the dark nights during the colder months, so really I don't think there's any excuse not to enjoy the lighter nights while we have them.
I love walking along the beach while the sun is setting, or enjoying my tea in the back garden either with friends and a bbq or alone with a book and a glass of wine... It's little things like this that I don't do often enough, and I'm really going to push myself to do it more this year while I can!

Don't forget your camera: I carry my camera everywhere with me, and constantly take photos.
I do have a love for photography, but it's mainly because I love to look back through photos and captured moments so much.
If you take on just one of these tips for your Summer, make it this one... Take more photos and enjoy remembering the fun times.

How do you embrace Summer? I'd love to hear your tips too!
