When I was in secondary school and college, I always dreamed about becoming an interior designer. Since moving into our own place a few years ago, my passion for decor, interior styling and furniture has grown even more. I'm always searching Pinterest for new ideas, scrolling through Instagram hashtags looking for inspo and watching endless hours of daytime home makeover shows.

When I heard that John Lewis were offering a home design service, I couldn't wait to find out more, so I visited their Newcastle store to get the low down on just exactly what they and their skilled team of designers, can do for us in store and in our own homes.
If you decide to visit John Lewis Home Design Service in Newcastle, you can book online for an initial free style advice session which consists of 90 minutes to work through your ideas to find a style and budget to suit your individual taste and requirements. This can be if you're wanting to renovate your whole house from scratch, fully redecorate one room, or simply change up a theme or colour scheme of a space.

The designers will put together a personal shopping list for you (with no pressure or obligation to buy), will have samples of fabrics, flooring, paint samples and any finishing touches that they have in mind for your new room and they can book in any appointments needed in your own home for measurements and further discussion if required. These meetings are held in a designated area of the shop floor, where you can get comfy, step away from the hustle and bustle of the store, view product samples and mood boards all while going through your ideas in depth.

A two hour, at home, design consultation appointment costs £250 and involves the designers getting to know the space(s) you're wishing to change, taking photos, a personalised design scheme plus digital mood board and shopping list, booking for further measurements or fittings and a further 60 minute in store follow up meeting where you are able to view the designers proposed design scheme. The consultation area in store will even be decorated ready for you to arrive, with all of your relevant fabric samples, accessories and paint colours. Furthermore, if you choose to shop with John Lewis following this consultation, the £250 fee is fully redeemable on any purchases over £1500 through the home design service - Such a good deal!
The displays in store are perfectly put together by a team of visual merchandisers who spend hours decorating different areas of the home floor and setting up living room, kitchen and bedroom replicas to show their products and full range to the best they possibly can. If you're looking for any inspiration, I would personally recommend visiting the store, just to browse. I guarantee you will come away feeling inspired, whether it's a full kitchen renovation that catches your eye, a colour scheme or simply a pairing of glasses and coasters, there is so much to look at, I don't think you can help buy feel motivated to change up your home.

The kitchen design service is quite new to John Lewis and their range of fitted kitchen options is so impressive. Whether you're looking for something glossy and modern with rounded edges, a farm house inspired country style with wooden doors and work tops, a kitchen with all copper accessories, something contemporary and modern, they really have it all, and everything in between.

Not only do the kitchens look impressive, but they have some really innovative and unique space saving and storage ideas such as touch cupboards that don't have handles and self close, sliding doors which fit flush into the units and pull out shelves on runners. Of course John Lewis also sell and stock a huge range of everything you could need to accessorise every room in your home and their merchandising shows off the most beautiful collections, paired perfectly with complementing pieces... Walking round the store is like stepping into your dream Pinterest board, there's inspiration around every corner.

The dining room and living room displays were some of my personal favourites, I love how the tables are laid out perfectly to display large collections of dining sets and cutlery but also have a real life home feel to them, much like the living room displays, which make you feel as though you're stepping into a different house with each space you view. I really loved the mixtures of textures and soft furnishings and there were some beautiful colour schemes, incorporating classic and modern styles... it gave me so many ideas for when we finally get our new house.
I have to say, despite John Lewis being a brand that's over 150 years old, they're definitely not old fashioned when it comes to interior style, interestingly enough they started out as a drapery shop too, so interiors and styling really do come from the heart of the business. They most certainly cater for a wide audience from the long-time John Lewis shoppers, to young couples and families. There's even a student and first time buyer targeted range! The House range is much more affordable than the other ranges, it's modern, sleek and really versatile with furniture for the living, dining, kitchen and bedrooms. All of which comes delivered flat packed to your home.

Across all of the collections, there are countless options for sofas in different styles, sizes, fabrics and colours, most of which are customisable. The team in John Lewis are always on hand to answer your questions in store, and have a broad range of sample fabrics for you to view on the shop floor. I love the idea of being able to select your dream sofa or chair an customising it to suit your personal taste or to fit in with the theme of a room in your house. The layout of the store makes it so much easier to envisage how the pieces will look in a real life room too, and the variation of styles and colour schemes around the home wear floor covers most of the popular trends of the moment, with the floor displays being changed with the seasons.
I was also able to view the outdoor living department, which boasts some stunning garden furniture including the breath-taking dome shaped pod, which has tinted glass to keep it cool inside, seats seven people on it's customisable leather seating, rotates and can be upgraded so that the table inside drops down and converts into a circular bed... It's such a show stopper! I also fell a little bit in love with the wooden out house that's on display too, it's deceivingly huge inside, yet it looks so cute, and would be perfect for spending time in with family during the Summer months. I would gladly have this as an addition to my garden.
John Lewis is easily one of my favourite shops in Newcastle, and I'm so happy to now be so much more familiar with the home department, much like I am with the beauty counters in store!

Let me know what you think of the home design service and if you'll be paying a visit to the team.
