Now that Elodie is back to school, it feels like I can relax and enjoy a little me time, although I am going to miss my sidekick loads! We had such a lovely Summer break as a family and with just a few days left of the holidays we were invited to experience a Coca-Cola ParkLives activity session in Newcastle.
Jesmond Park Newcastle Coca Cola ParkLives
Over the Summer and continuing on through the Autumn months, Coca Cola and ParkLives are holding thousands of free, fun activities for children and adults in various parks around Newcastle and other parts of the country. The list of activities is really varied, so there is something to suit everyone whether it's yoga, tai chi, hoola-hooping or walking, there are even buggy activities for those parents who have little ones and want to mingle with other mums.

I love to get Elodie out of the house and in the fresh air as much as possible, time away from her iPad is always a good thing, and this was a really fun way to spend an hour of our day - It's a great way to get children to enjoy play and exercise at the same time. As quite a shy child, without pushing Elodie, we do like to encourage her to mix with new people and I definitely recommend ParkLives for those who want to socialise, whether it's for your child or for yourself. By the end of our session, Elodie was laughing and playing with all of the other children who were aged from 1 to probably 14 or 15 and for those who say it's hard to make friends as an adult, this is a way to do it.

The sessions we attended were held at Jesmond Dene Park and it was a beautiful day in the North East, the sun was shining making it perfect weather to be outside. Thanks to a temperamental sat nav and some really bad traffic, we arrived a bit late for the hula hoop session which Elodie was especially looking forward to, which was a real shame, but she still managed to have a little go and try out some new skills with the Park Lives session leader before it ended.

Each session, no matter which you choose to attend, will be ran by a session leader from the local community, who will not only be passionate about what they do, but will be really friendly and put everyone at ease. The leader at our sessions couldn't have been more welcoming, and she made it all so fun for the children, interacting with them all and letting them decide which activities and games to play next.

Despite the sessions being group activities, it was a really relaxed atmosphere and everyone was allowed to work at their own pace to suit their abilities, which worked really well as the age range of the children taking part was so broad. This stood out to me as a real plus point regarding the adult sessions too, anyone who's less fit than the rest has no reason to worry about being left behind! I would always worry about attending any kind of fitness session in case of not being able to keep up, but with ParkLives this will never be an issue, it's more about having fun, spending time outside and doing something positive for your personal well being.

The next session Elodie took part in was the parachute activity, which took me straight back to my childhood, as I remember doing the exact same thing in primary school. All of the children seemed to really enjoy this, lifting the parachute into the air and running underneath had the park filled with laughter... Some of the parents even joined in!

If you're interested in attending some Coca Cola ParkLives sessions, they are held at various times during the day throughout the week to fit in with everyone's different schedules. They're completely free, open to anyone and you can bring friends or comes alone and make some new ones. You can sign up and browse all of the locations and activities on the ParkLives website
