After visiting the Darlington Hippodrome for the first time earlier in the year, I couldn't wait to return this Christmas to see their pantomime Aladdin which is in town until Sunday 6th January. So if you're wanting to make the festivities last a little longer, you still have a week left to see the show!
darlington hippodrome theatre pantomime review
The panto stars TV's Louis Spence, Eric Potts, Robin Askwith, Liam Mellor and Darlington favourite and West End / Pop Idol / Big Brother star Zoe Birkett, who has returned to the Hippodrome once again as Princess Jasmine.

Aladdin was one of my favourite Disney films as a child, and to see the story adapted into a fun, laugh-a-minute pantomime really took me back to my childhood and will really make you feel like you're in a Whole New World. With slapstick comedy and the usual panto boos and hisses balanced out with stunning costumes, beautiful songs and the amazing set featuring a real flying carpet which travels over the heads of the audience in the stalls, the show is one not to be missed!

As I expected, Louis brings the fun and the comedy to the stage from start to finish, with lots of risky innuendos to keep the adults laughing, he dances around the stage with such energy, his character The Spirit Of The Ring really is the star of the show. I was really impressed with how much he laughed at and made fun of himself, allowing the audience to do so too.

Zoe's amazing vocal talents are hard to ignore too, with a mixture of classic Aladdin songs and more recent hits throughout the performance, it was hard not to sing along, especially to the Greatest Showman songs! Widow Twanky also provided some great musical interludes with a Darlo inspired remix of Downtown, which the audience loved!

The special effects and magic tricks emphasised by the actors, the dancers and the sparkly set make this panto one that you really shouldn't miss. We left full of energy, still laughing and singing the songs - a sign of a great show!

Thank you to Darlington Hippodrome for inviting us along to review the show.
