It's almost been a month since Christmas, meaning the last of the decorations should be firmly tidied away until next year. As soon as mine were up in the loft I gave the house a good clean ready for the new year ahead... It's such a good feeling, but does anyone else feel like their rooms are really bare once the tree and other festive accessories have gone?

I always think that this time of the year is ideal for a bit of a room refresh, whether that's a move around with furniture, the addition of something new or some different accessorising. I thought that I would share a few ways to add some colour and character back into the house now that the decorations are gone.
Flowers can make a real difference to a space, they brighten and freshen the room they're in and at this time of year they can remind you that Spring is on it's way! I love to have a vase of flowers in the kitchen or hallway and this stunning bouquet from Bloom Magic which was very kindly gifted to me, has taken pride of place for everyone to see. The flowers themselves are gorgeous, high quality hand tied bouquets and they smell incredible when you come into the room - another huge bonus of choosing fresh over fake! I also love that they are delivered to the door (with next day delivery available!)  in the round hatbox which doubles up as a vase, so whether you're gifting them to someone else or they're for yourself, you're able to display them so easily. The boxes are also available in different colours so you can tailor them to suit your colour scheme or occasion... I'll definitely be looking for any excuse to treat my loved ones (and myself) to these throughout the year.
We had a big, red Fair Isle print throw over our bed for Christmas time, and as soon as I packed it away with the  decorations in the loft, the bed looked completely bare and it felt rather cold at night. Instead of  turning up the heating, I replaced it with this gorgeous white and pink ombre effect Mongolian throw. Not only is is really thick and cosy, but it's incredibly soft too, making it perfect for over the bed or sofa to cuddle under at night. It definitely adds a bit of a boudoir vibe to the bedroom too... and who doesn't want that?!
Another part of the bedroom to have suffered from the removal of anything festive is our dresser, where I had stood a small tree. Although I do love a de-cluttered and minimalist styled space, it just felt too bare, so I moved my velvet jewellery boxes from my makeup storage area to here, and they have filled the space perfectly. The beautiful, jewel coloured velvet boxes are another addition to the room that really do add some glamour to the space. When stacked, the boxes with the gold clasp fastenings look so stylish, and they're so roomy for hiding away all of my bits and bobs, they really help me to stay tidy!
Of course, the front room has suffered the most with the loss of the tree and everything else we had in there. For a quick, yet really effective fix, I framed some prints which I was gifted from Posterlounge and stood them on my mantelpiece. It surprised me at how effective they look, and I'm already planning on adding more. As we're hoping to move into our own house this year, we really don't want to invest in decorating, but I think adding a gallery wall, which can be changed to suit the seasons, will be the best way to create some interest and add colour to the room.

How have you refreshed your home for the new year? I'd love some more ideas and inspiration!
